A remarkable vintage sterling silver ram’s head necklace with a wonderfully powerful, almost archaeological presence.

The centrepiece is a substantial sculpted ram’s head, beautifully modelled with sweeping curled horns, textured fleece and a long, finely defined face. Small coloured stones are inset across the crown, adding flashes of deep red and blue against the aged silver surface.

Rather than being suspended from a conventional chain, the ram is incorporated into a strand of polished dark beads, punctuated close to the pendant by larger rich blue beads and small metallic spacers. The effect is dramatic without being ostentatious: part piece of jewellery, part miniature sculpture.

The ram has been an enduring symbol of strength, determination, leadership and vitality, while also being closely associated with Aries. That symbolism, combined with the extraordinary sculptural pendant, gives this necklace considerably more character than a conventional gemstone or silver necklace.

What makes the piece particularly appealing is the contrast between materials. The dark, glossy beads frame the aged silver beautifully, while the blue beads either side of the pendant draw the eye directly towards the ram. Presented in good vintage condition with the age-related surface character and patination expected of an older silver piece. Please study the photographs closely, as they form an important part of the description.

I have deliberately left the silver with its existing patina rather than heavily polishing it, as this gives the modelling considerably greater depth and preserves the character of the piece.
